Most residents of Gedangan village near Mount Merapi have left shelters in Boyolali and returned to their homes inside the volcano's danger zone.

Residents were unwilling to evacuate although their homes were only 10 kilometers away from Mt. Merapi.
The authorities visit the village and tried to persuade residents to evacuate, unfortunately with mixed success.
Survivors who refused to evacuate have signed a statement agreeing not sue the government.

Only 400 of Gedangan's 3,929 residents remained in temporary shelters in Boyolali; the rest have returned home, Sugiono said.

The alert status from volcanologists guarding the volcano remains the same.
People get a wrong feeling that the eruption is calming down because the volcano's eruption is currently not that violent anymore.
